Tax-Exempt Organizations
At Botwinick & Company, LLC, our tax-exempt organization's team supports organizations of all kinds—corporate, family, and institutional foundations, colleges, hospitals, religious organizations, governmental entities, cultural organizations, advocacy groups, and many others—in reaching their goals. As exempt organizations become increasingly influential in the national economy, their programs and operations become more elaborate.
We guide organizations through incorporation, designing suitable tax structures, acquiring federal and state tax exemptions, and initiating operations. In addition, we assist nonprofits in navigating the complex regulatory environment once they are up and running. We help our clients develop best practices, and we advise them on tax, conflicts of interest, risk oversight, affiliated entities, internal investigations, executive compensation, and compliance with tax best practices. We also assist with structuring complex grants, program-related investments, impact investing, and joint ventures.
As needed, our CPAs advise tax-exempt organizations and their affiliates in audits by the IRS and state regulatory authorities at all levels of the administrative process, from the initial examination stage through the appeals or technical guidance process. As a result, we have settled various audits, including complex cases involving negotiated closing agreements. We also work with clients to prevent tax disputes by designing and executing internal compliance reviews to establish potential audit susceptibilities. In addition, we review IRS forms 990, 990-T, 990-PF, and other tax filings for compliance purposes before filing.
We understand the sophisticated business procedures and financial management needed to run a prosperous tax-exempt organization. We can help find creative sources of revenue support and business transactions with for-profit organizations on the rise, the complexity of your tax issues continues to advance.
